What's in a name?
People regularly ask me where the name Dru Yoga comes from, so I thought I write a short blog to tell you.
The word Dru comes from the Sanskrit dhruva, meaning constant, still and unchanging. Historically, Dhruva is the name given to the North (or Pole) Star, which remains fixed while all other stars appear to move around it.
When practising Dru Yoga awareness is mindfully directed to that place inside oursrselves, called Dhruvakasha, which is still and spacious. This is the place of deep peace where we are able to retain our inner tranquility and strength no matter what is happening around us. The calm at the centre of the storm.
This is why you will often see Dru Yoga referred to as, “stillness in motion”.
It is in this place of stillness that we can become aware of ourselves at the three levels of being - physical, mental and emotional. This enables us to observe and where necessary transform how we are feeling in our bodies, the quality of the thoughts in our minds and the state of our emotions.
