The Magic of Meditation Course
Meditation has been practiced for thousands of years because of the many benefits it brings to our physical, mental and emotional health.
It has an ancient technique that can help us to cope better with the stresses and strains of modern life.
In this introductory course you will discover the magic of meditation by learning about and trying-out different styles of meditation. It is fun, informative and practical.
What is meditation?
Meditation is a practice of training your mind. It involves relaxation, focus, and awareness. Many people find it a fantastic a way to reduce stress and develop concentration.
In short, meditation is to the mind what physical exercise is to the body.
What is meditation not?
There are a lot of commonly held beliefs and misconceptions about meditation. To be clear, meditation is not:
‘Emptying your mind’, ‘stopping your thoughts’ or ‘making your mind blank’ – this is impossible!
About sitting still with your legs crossed – as you’ll learn during the next six weeks, there are many different ways to meditate and everyone can find an approach that works for them.
Difficult – it may be challenging at times but it’s not fundamentally difficult because anyone can find a way to do it that suits them.
Inherently religious – it can be and is common to all faiths but it’s also common to many secular practices too, and you do not need a faith or set of beliefs to benefit from it. If you do have a faith meditation can help enhance and deepen your connection to a higher power.
Why meditate?
You can practice meditation for whatever reason motivates you – for relaxation, to improve your health and wellbeing, or for developing your personal growth.
Modern science is now beginning to prove that the ancient yogis and sages were right when they spoke of all the riches that meditation can bring. This includes:
Strengthening and increasing positive emotions
Reducing stress, anxiety and depression
Boosting the immune system
Improving sleep
Decreasing blood pressure
Helping reduce pain.
